Is Your Child Eating Genetically Engineered
Foods?
As a parent, you are concerned about the health and welfare
of your children. You are there to care for them and make sure
that they get the best of everything. However, it may not be as
easy as you think when it comes to watching all of the
different foods that your children consume. How can you be
absolutely sure that your child is not eating genetically
engineered foods? No one knows the long-term effects on
children, so common sense is that it's best to avoid them and
not allow your child to be experimented on.
In order to double check the kinds of foods that you are
eating, it is best to arm yourself with the knowledge of what
genetically engineered foods are and how they are processed.
Knowing what they actually are and where they come from can
make a world of difference when you are making purchases at
your local grocery store.
There is strong research pointing to genetically engineered
foods being a catalyst for the rise in childhood food allergies
along with a host of other illnesses in children. As of yet, no
hard links have been confirmed but the fact that there just may
be a link is enough for most parents to start replacing the
genetically engineered foods with healthy, organic food
choices.
That pre-made lunch you sent your child off to school with
may contain a host of genetically altered foods. The most
popular of these types of lunches is a slice of cheese pizza, a
box of juice and crackers on the side. Break it down to a slice
of pizza made with GMO flour, the tomatoes used in the pizza
sauce most likely are commercially altered and may contain GMO
ingredients and the cheese may be from cows injected with RbGH
(bovine growth hormone). And that's just one instance. Look at
your breakfast cereals, ready-made lunches and the dinner in a
box your kids eat because it's so hurried when you come home
from work. See how easily your kids could be eating GMO foods
up to three times a day?
Of course, the absolute best plan of attack would be to live
on a farm and grow all of your own foods and raise your own
livestock. However, that's not realistic for the majority of
us. Fortunately there are other routes that you could think
about taking. When you have an infant at home, there are a wide
variety of organic foods that you can look into when it comes
to meal times. Buy choosing organic, you are eliminating any
chance of genetically engineered foods. All organic foods and
products are completely free of any sort of harsh processing,
chemicals or fertilizers, and of course genetically modified
ingredients. By going with organic for your baby and even your
older children, you can make sure that you are cutting out any
of the potential fear of potential health risks caused by
genetically engineered foods and food products.
Take the time to look around your grocery store and see what
kinds of natural and organic foods are available to you. You
will find nearly every cereal, packaged meal and canned soup
has a healthy, organic alternative. When it comes to your child
eating at school and you feel as though you cannot be sure that
they are not serving foods that are genetically engineered, it
might be best if you provide your child with proper lunches and
snacks for school every day. Paying close attention to the
foods that your child consumes can lead to a much healthier
future as well as instill good eating habits in your kids that
will last a lifetime.
